Thread: gpx to kml conversion does nothing

  1. #1

Default gpx to kml conversion does nothing

Is it hidden? a hidden file?

I set the output folder to the desktop and nothing is there

tried naming it "testkml.kml" to see if I need to set the name and still nothing..

I forget what was there first, if there was a file name already there.

    Any ideas?

    Two things:
    1) Which KML type did you select? (Summary, comprehensive, etc.)
    2) Did you look for a folder named "testkml"? inSSIDer outputs the file to a subdirectory in the output directory.
For example, if you select the input file "log1.gpx" and the output directory of your desktop, inSSIDer will place the output KML(s) in a folder named "log1" on the desktop. Does that make sense?

    1. I tried both, several times.

    2. Brand new laptop, just installed win 7, have 4 icons on the desktop, nothing new (folder or files)

Anyone can tell me the default path? (the whole thing or more importantly, the end)

    Default

There is no default path, the output path is the path you specify.

Here is an example of me converting my GPX log "log1.gpx":

    1) I select "Convert GPX to KML" from the File menu.

    2) It prompts me for my input log, I select "log1.gpx" then press Open.

    3) Then it prompts me for the output folder. I select "c:\cygwin\gpx_logs" and click OK.

    4) Here are the settings I used for export:

    5) I click Export, wait a second or two, then get an "Export complete" message.

    6) inSSIDer exported the KML file into a folder named "log1" inside my selected output path "c:\cygwin\gpx_logs".

    7) Here is the output KML file. Since I selected Summary, the output file is "Summary.kml"

Does that help? If not, around which step are you having a problem?

I am in the process of getting another laptop. Going with the lenovo idea pad.

Thank you for this and I will post back in about a week and see if I have the same problem

I was having a similar problem where the summary files created were empty. My solution was to uncheck all boxes under "data quality" section of the export options.
