Thread: Unknown signal from 902-916 MHz ??

    Question Unknown signal from 902-916 MHz ??

    I found this signal in Rochester, MN in a hotel room. Would anyone have any idea's as to what might have made this?

    I can rule out phone (as far as I know) and the standard 900MHz band devices. I thought about it being utility info, but it appeared to be coming from outside my windows on the lower level. I was next to a parking lot and wonder if there are any car alarms or the like that produce this like of signature?

    I don't know the frequency or technology but I know both our power and water utilities have upgraded residential meters so they can be read from the street...they drive around with a radio antenna hanging off their tool rack. Maybe check to see if there are gas, water, or electric meters nearby?

    Another thing comes to mind, could be a cordless mouse. I've seen them on 27MHz (interfering with CB radio CH#7-8), then they advertised newer ones for a wihle on 900MHz, and now the newest ones 2.4GHz. Unfortuniately the only device I have to monitor 900MHz is a radio scanner.

    I am new to this Freq. range, but the maximum readings look like Smart Grid transmitters like we have in Los Angeles. (confirmed by the power company).

    I am new too to waterfall plots, but to me it looks like spread spectrum.

    Haven't seen signals like the plots labelled Utility Endpoints.
