    Question Question about Wi-Spy DBx

    I use a Wi-Spy DBx(Frequency:5150 to 5850MHz) and
    I captured unknown signals out-of-band frequency range
    (around the 5100MHz range) by using Chanalyzer Lab.

    But in my environment, I don't put devices that give off
    signals around its frequency range.
    So I think it has bug.

    I attached the captured file of Chanalyser Lab and measured data.
    Please see attached file.

    I want an opinion about what the signals around the 5100MHz range are.

    In the USA the frequency range from 5.0 GHz to 5.15 GHz is allocated for aeronautical radio navigation use. Link
    Are you near an airport or FAA facility?

    There is no Airport and FAA facility around my environment.
    I tested it in Tokyo Japan and there was no noise source around here.
    So I guess that the Wi-Spy DBx or Chanalyzer Lab have a bug.

    In Japan aeronautical radio navigation as well as space based communications use the 5.0 GHz through 5.15 GHz spectrum.

    In Japan there are 4 channels allocated at 5035 MHz, 5040 MHz, 5045 MHz and 5055 MHz.

    The source of the signals may be far from your location.

    I seriously doubt that there is a reporting bug in Chanalyzer. If there was, I would see it too. I don't.

    For additional information,when I captured the frequency around the 5.3GHz range,
    I could also capture the frequency range from 5.0GHz to 5.15GHz.

    On the contrary,when I don't use the device,
    I don't capture the frequency range from 5.0GHz to 5.15GHz.

    And more when I used other spectrum analyzer in same environment,
    the signals from 5.0GHz to 5.15GHz weren't captured.

    So I want the reason why the signals give off around the 5.0GHz to 5.15GHz
    and an opinion whether Metageek can fix the bug if it has a bug.

    Our customer is far from satisfied with our response as of this moment

    and we need to explain for our customer the details about the possible cause.

    So I'd appreciate it if you give us the other possible cause about this problem.

    In addition, new firmware version(4.2.27) is available from on web.

    Is there a possibility that the latest firmware version can fix this problem?

    Hi sakaki,

    Unfortunately, based on your screenshot, I don't see any problems. I see 5 Ghz with both Wi-Fi and non-Wi-Fi devices talking. It looks like a non-Wi-Fi device near 5100 MHz.

    Hi Joel.

    This problem assumes that the unknown signals around the 5.1G range were captured at only 5G Wi-Fi environment.
    I didn't put any other devices near the 5G Wi-Fi.

    And other spectrum analyzer didn't capture the unknown signals around the 5.1G range in same environment.

    So I want to know why Wi-Spy DBx and Chanalyze Lab captured like that unknown signals.

    Typically, the frequency range is from 5.0 GHz to 5.15 GHz. If it is not near the airport or FAA facility it may be that your device is faulty.
