    Default Channel Recommendation Parameters

On occasion I'll see channel 1 then channel 6 recommended. The environment remains fairly constant.

Channel 1 has a competing AP with a -35 dBm signal versus my -36 dBm signal.
Channel 6 has 3 competing APs all with a -86 dBm or weaker signal versus my -35 dBm signal.
The signals vary by a couple of dBm over time.
There are no overlapping channels and the out of band noise is equal across the entire 2.4 GHz band.

What are the parameters for determining the inSSider recommendation?
Which is better, fewer strong AP competitors or more weak competitors?

inSSIDer seems to flip-flop perhaps on a metric that I cant see.

inSSIDer's #1 goal is to steer you away from adjacent-channel interference. After that, it tries to avoid co-channel interference as much as possible. It factors in signal strengths of adjacent and co-channel networks in as well when it calculates the best channel.

It sounds like you've got two channels that are almost equally good. We decided to make the channel selection algorithm more responsive rather than more steady to help technicians see changes as they move around. If inSSIDer Office can't decide between 1 and 6, then you've got two equally good channels to choose from. Pick one, and leave it, even if inSSIDer changes it's mind.
